David Gaub McCullough (ur. 7 lipca 1933 w Pittsburghu[1], zm. 7 sierpnia 2022 w Hingham[2]) – amerykański pisarz i historyk, dwukrotny zdobywca Nagrody Pulitzera[3].

Życiorys[edytuj | edytuj kod]

Ukończył studia na Uniwersytecie Yale[1]. Będąc studentem, poznał pisarza Thorntona Wildera[4]. Pod wpływem tego kontaktu zdecydował się na karierę literata[4].

Debiutował w 1968 książką The Johnstown Flood, nad którą pracował 3 lata[5]. Drugą książką był The Great Bridge, poświęcony mostowi Brooklińskiemu[5].

Dwa razy otrzymał Nagrodę Pulitzera w dziedzinie biografii i autobiografii[1]: w 1993 dostał to wyróżnienie za książkę Truman[6], a w 2002 został uhonorowany za biografię John Adams[7]. Również dwukrotnie zdobył Narodową Nagrodę Książkową[1] – pierwszy raz za książkę o Kanale Panamskim The Path Between the Seas: The Creation of the Panama Canal[8] (w związku z tą publikacją brał udział w dyskusji na temat kanału z prezydentem Jimmym Carterem[5]), drugi raz za biografię prezydenta Theodore’a Roosevelta Mornings on Horseback. W 2006 roku został odznaczony Prezydenckim Medalem Wolności[9].

Interesował się sztuką i architekturą[1]. Był żonaty z Rosalee Barnes McCullough[10], z którą miał pięcioro dzieci[1].
