Blazonowanie

Deutsch: „Das Wappen der Stadt Overath zeigt von Silber (Weiß) und Blau geteilt, oben auf silbernem Grund einen zweischwänzigen roten Löwen, blau bewehrt und blau gekrönt, unten auf blauem Grund eine goldene (gelbe) Glocke.“ Overath wird urkundlich erstmals im Jahre 1064 namentlich erwähnt.

English: „The arms were newly designed as no older seals or arms were known. The upper part of the arms show the lion of Berg, as the area historically belonged to the County (later Duchy) of Berg. The lower part shows a bell, as the bell-making was of major importance for the town in the 14th-16th century.“
