Opis
English: The cover of the Helion.pl book ', Polish-language translation of Free as in Freedom by Sam Williams. the original was published in English on 1 March 2002 picturing Richard Matthew Stallman. Note: This image is a digital manipulation of a low resolution image displayed on mouseover by JavaScript on the http://helion.pl website at http://helion.pl/ksiazki/wobron.htm. Because the publisher deliberately made it difficult to retrieve the highest available resolution image, even though it was published under copyleft, I captured it in a Linux Certified LC2430 laptop running a Debian Lenny 5.0 RC1 linux operating system and the ksnapshot 0.7 screen capture utility (itself using KDE 3.5.10 and running under the Xfce 4 Desktop Environment version 4.4.2 (Xfce 4.4)), first using the Opera 10 Alpha web browser, build 4126 to access the website and display the mouseover, by placing the mouse on the lower right picture corner while nawigating by keyboard tab navigation to the open ksnapshot window, to capture the screenshot. Then, gimp 2.4.7 was used to further crop the image precisely, keeping part of the JavaScript window frame for added aesthetic value, at high magnification (800%), and then scaled up, using gimp's Scale Image tool, with interpolation set to employ the Sinc (Lanczos3) algorithm, by +300%. Then the image was saved as PNG image, without interlacing, without transparent pixels, and without background pixels, but with gamma preserved, and creation date saved, at image compression set to 6 on a 1-to-9 scale, 9 being least compression. The original book cover in Polish is of course released under the Gnu Free Documentation License. Apart from viewing the helion.pl website in Opera 10, and using Google Search to find it in the internet in the first place, and the proprietary WPC600N wireless network card driver used to obtain network connectivity encapsulated on linux by the ndiswrapper software, no unfreely licensed programming was used in making this image freely available to the community. My hopes are that high resolution images of the cover will be made available as a result of this perhaps excessive description, the craftiness of it all necessitated by the crufty hiding of the copyleft image by its random publisher.
