Susan Hill (ur. 5 lutego 1942 w Scarborough) – angielska pisarka, autorka popularnych powieści, opowiadań, książek dla dzieci, dramatopisarka, krytyk literacki.

Życiorys

W 1958 roku rodzina opuściła Scarborough i przeniosła się do Coventry. W 1963 r. ukończyła King’s College. Zostaje krytykiem literackim, pisała m.in. do „Coventry Evening Post”. Debiutowała jeszcze podczas studiów 1961 roku powieścią „The Enclosure”. W latach 1963—68 pracowała jako dziennikarka. W 1972 została członkiem Royal Society of Literature.

1975 roku poślubiła Stanleya Wellsa, z którym zamieszkała w Stratford-upon-Avon. W 1978 r., rok po urodzeniu pierwszej córki Jessiki, przenieśli się do Oksfordu. W 1984 urodziła drugą córkę, Imogen, która zmarła pięć tygodni później i została pochowana na starym cmentarzu kościoła św. Mikołaja w Old Marston. W 1985 roku urodziła się ich najmłodsza córka, Clemency. W 1990 roku przenieśli się do Cotswolds.

W 1997 r. założyła własne wydawnictwo Long Barn Books. Autorka dwóch książek autobiograficznych, The Magic Apple Tree: A Country Year o życiu w Oxfordshire w latach siedemdziesiątych oraz Family o swojej młodości w Scarborough. Jej powieść Kobieta w czerni została adaptowana na sztukę teatralną w 1987 r. i sfilmowana w 1989 r.
