WORD has been received at theChurch Missions House of thedeath on May 21st of ProfessorTamura, the Principal of the GirlsHigh School of the City of Peace,formerly known as St. Agnes School,Kyoto, after an illness of only twenty-four hours. Bishop Tucker says ofhim: He was a faithful worker anda consistent Christian, absolutely hon-est, and untiring in his efforts to pro-mote the welfare of the school. The Board has adopted the follow-ing resolution in appreciation of Mr.Tamura: Resolved, That the Board ofMissions learned with profound re-gret of the loss sustained by St.Agnes School, Kyoto, the District ofKyoto, and the Church in Japan,through the death of Mr. H. Tamura,Principal of St. Agnes School. TheBoard is grateful for his long-con-tinued and efficient service, and con-gratulates the Church in Japan thatit has been able to make to the workof Christian education such a valua-ble contribution.

A VISITATION OF THE CHURCHES ON THEISTHMUS OF PANAMA By The Rt. Rev. Albion W. Knight, D.D. CONDITIONS on the Isthmushave settled to the point whereit is possible to form some ideaof what will need attention in thefuture. Many of the missions whichexisted during the active constructionperiod, when it was almost one con-tinuous village from the Atlantic tothe Pacific, have disappeared with theletting in of the water. Some of ourlargest and most active mission sta-tions are now beneath the water, andships sail over localities where churchedifices stood. The policy of concen-tration at the ends of the canalbrought forth orders to close missionsand remove buildings, and as thelands upon which these buildings stoodwere occupied only on sufferance, noother alternative remained. Among the buildings ordered re-moved were those at Gatun, Gorgona,Bas Obispo, Las Cascadas, Empire,Culebra, Pedro Miguel and Mt. Hope,and these have been all removed orsold at a great sacrifice.
