The Last Bard of Limerick – poemat duchownego i poety Jamesa O’Leary’ego, opublikowany w 1865^[1]. Utwór został napisany strofą spenserowską (Spenserian stanza), czyli zwrotką dziewięciowersową rymowaną ababbcbcc^[2].

Deep in his soul a festering wound he fed;

A spark of life still lit his aged eye;

His flowing locks swept round a stately head,

Scattered and hoar, no more of saffron dye:

And he did bear the mien that durst defy

The oppressor's ire, the soldier’s stroke.

Of stranded fortune, yet of lineage high,

Lordly he moved with a large stick of Irish oak,

A minstrel who had failed to sunder Ireland's yoke.
