English: „The crossed peat-spades indicate that the area historical was a marshy area, from which peat was harvested. The three stones (bricks) in the arms indicate the importance of stone and brickmaking in the area. The colours are those of the State of Münster, to which the area historically belonged.“

Deutsch: „Die Farbgebung (Rot und Gold) weist auf die altmünsterschen und altoldenburgischen Farben hin. Die drei perspektivischen Ziegelsteine im oberen Drittel weisen auf eine Ziegelei hin, deren Bestehen seit dem 15. Jahrhundert bewiesen ist. Die gekreuzten Torfspaten deuten darauf hin, dass ein Drittel des Gemeindegebietes Moor war. Sie wurden zum Graben von Weiß- und Schwarztorf benutzt.“
