Opis

Opis
English: Erno Erb (Ukraine, 1878 - Nazi Concentration Camp, 1943)

A game of chess oil on canvas

Erno Aizig (Isaac) Erb is a Lviv artist of Jewish origin. There is very little information about his life (at least on the Internet). According to some sources, after graduating from the Art and Industrial School in Lvov, Erb studied and worked in Vienna. According to others, he was a student at the Berlin Academy of Arts, where he felt the significant influence of M. Lieberman. He lived in Lvov and Truskavets. He drew pictures, made costumes and decorations for the theater, painted synagogues. He died in the Yanovsk concentration camp during the war.

The themes of his canvases are pictures from city life, street shopping, bazaars, as well as portraits, landscapes and still lifes.

His works are in the People's Museum and the Historical Museum of Krakow, the collections of the Jewish Institute in Warsaw, in the Lviv Art Gallery and the Museum of Ukrainian Art in Lviv.
