- Myron: etymologia nieznana, Gray nie wyjaśnił znaczenia nazwy rodzajowej[2].
- Neospades: gr. νεοσπασης neospadēs „świeżo wydobyty z rany, krwawy”[3]. Gatunek typowy: Neospades kentii De Vis, 1889 (= Myron richardsonii J.E. Gray, 1849).
