Potto[5] (Perodicticus) – rodzaj ssaków naczelnych z podrodziny Perodicticinae w obrębie rodziny lorisowatych (Lorisidae).
Zasięg występowania
[edytuj | edytuj kod]Rodzaj obejmuje gatunki występujące w zachodnio-środkowej Afryce[6][7][8].
Morfologia
[edytuj | edytuj kod]Długość ciała 30–40 cm, ogona 4–10 cm; masa ciała 850–1600 g[7][9].
Systematyka
[edytuj | edytuj kod]Rodzaj zdefiniował w 1831 roku brytyjski zoolog Edward Turner Bennett na łamach Proceedings of the Committee of Science and Correspondence of the Zoological Society of London[1]. Na gatunek typowy Bennett wyznaczył potto wielkiego (P. potto).
Etymologia
[edytuj | edytuj kod]- Perodicticus (Pterodicticus): gr. πηρός pēros „okaleczony”; δεικτικός deiktikos „podkreślenie czegoś”[10].
- Potto: lokalna nazwa Potto oznaczająca w wolof lemura[11]. Nowa nazwa dla Perodicticus E.T. Bennett, 1831.
- Pseudopotto: gr. ψευδος pseudos „fałszywy”; epitet gatunkowy Lemur potto Lesson, 1840[4]. Gatunek typowy: Pseudopotto martini Schwartz, 1996 (= Lemur potto P.L.S. Müller, 1766).
