Indianapolis 500 1953 (oryg. Indianapolis International Motor Sweepstakes) – 2. runda Mistrzostw Świata Formuły 1 w sezonie 1953, która odbyła się 30 maja 1953 po raz 4. na torze Indianapolis Motor Speedway. Wyścig nazywany jest Hottest 500 z powodu wysokiej temperatury podczas wyścigu (150 °F, czyli 54,4 °C). Carl Scarborough wycofał się podczas wyścigu i zmarł w szpitalu z powodu wycieńczenia w szpitalu.[1] Podczas treningu natomiast śmiertelny wypadek miał Chet Miller.[2]

Pierwsza piątka otrzymywała punkty według klucza 8-6-4-3-2, 1 punkt przyznawany był dla kierowcy, który wykonał najszybsze okrążenie w wyścigu[7]. Klasyfikacja konstruktorów została wprowadzona w 1958 roku. Liczone było tylko 4 najlepsze wyścigi danego kierowcy.
