- Ailuronyx (Aeluronyx): gr. αιλουρος ailouros ‘kot’[6]; ονυξ onux, ονυχος onukhos ‘pazur, paznokieć’[7].
- Theconyx: gr. θηκη thēkē ‘skrzynia, szkatuła, sposób pochowania’[8]; ονυξ onux, ονυχος onukhos ‘pazur, paznokieć’. Gatunek typowy: Platydactylus seychellensis Duméril & Bibron, 1836.
