Kangurowiec[2] (Dorcopsis) – rodzaj ssaków z podrodziny kangurów (Macropodinae) w obrębie rodziny kangurowatych (Macropodidae).
Zasięg występowania[edytuj | edytuj kod]
Rodzaj obejmuje gatunki występujące na Nowej Gwinei i okolicznych wyspach[3][4][5].
Morfologia[edytuj | edytuj kod]
Długość ciała 42–97 cm, długość ogona 31–53,5 cm; masa ciała 3,4–11,6 kg (samce są większe i cięższe od samic)[4][6].
Systematyka[edytuj | edytuj kod]
Rodzaj zdefiniowali w 1845 roku niemieccy zoolodzy Hermann Schlegel i Salomon Müller w książce autorstwa Ceonraada Jacoba Temmincka Verhandelingen over de natuurlijke geschiedenis der Nederlandsche Overzeesche Bezittingen[1]. Jako gatunek typowy autorzy wyznaczyli w ramach monotypii kangurowca pręgowanego (D. muelleri).
Etymologia[edytuj | edytuj kod]
Dorcopsis: gr. λορκας dorkas „gazela”; οψις opsis „wygląd”[7].
Podział systematyczny[edytuj | edytuj kod]
Do rodzaju należą następujące występujące współcześnie gatunki[8][6][3][2]:
- Dorcopsis atrata Van Deusen, 1957 – kangurowiec czarny
- Dorcopsis hageni K.M. Heller, 1897 – kangurowiec białopręgi
- Dorcopsis luctuosa (D’Albertis, 1874) – kangurowiec szary
- Dorcopsis muelleri (Lesson, 1827) – kangurowiec pręgowany
Opisano również gatunek wymarły z pliocenu Australii[9]:
- Dorcopsis wintercookorum Flannery, Rich, Turnbull & Lundelius, 1992
